Asian Optimized IP addresses allows us to make broad BGP advertisement changes
to those blocks to affect incoming and outgoing paths to correct any routing
irregularities, congestion and other negative effects that Chinese (and some
other country's) ISP's frequently have.
We segregated and assigned unique blocks of IP address space, so that we can
make these changes and only effect those blocks without having to force our
entire customer base to go through the route changes (which for them may then
offer less than optimal routing).
Sometimes we have to completely turn down entire transit uplinks via BGP to the
Asian Optimized IP blocks in order to correct incoming path congestion or
routing issues that the Chinese ISP's are having at any specific time.
With our standard network, we will not do these changes as it will mean our
entire customer base will then lose access to that turned down transit uplinks
route paths. So if the client wants us to be able to provide assistance with the
frequently sub-optimal routing issues that Chinese ISP's have, they must be
using our AO IP blocks, otherwise they need to stick it out and wait for the
Chinese ISP's to resolve their issues on their own.
